Meeting Notes

Attendees:

Steve Boehlen – president

Shirley Hyer – vice president

Linda Boehlen – sectary

Paul Novotny – treasure

Claudia Knepper – board member

Amy Kocha – Alderperson

Scott Grygleski – Community Police

Absence:

Henry Wickman – historian

Amy Kocha wanted to make sure of any issues, as she was not going to be able to stay for the whole meeting.  We all expressed how pleased we were with her vote at the City Council meeting regarding the holiday decorations on city hall.

She is still working on the speed bumps. Right now there is not enough cases of speeding in the alleys to warrant speed bumps. However she is going to ask about more signs addressing the speed limit is the alley.

Paul Novotny addressed the water issue on the old Day St, across University next to Manna For Life. Due to the way the city cut off the street there is no longer a drain or a place for the water to go, and now there is a collection of water that in the winter is an ice hazard and in the summer is a mosquito haven.

Paul Novotny also mentioned that the other day a truck turning from University on to Elizabeth St. hit the single light for the railroad marker.

Scott Grygleski one of the community police officers was also in attendance and was asked about any issues going on, and he expressed the same types of problems around Day St. Steve Boehlen asked who things were going on the corner of Baird and Elm or the house on the corner of Elizabeth and Cedar. Scott Grygleski did state that things have been quite at those former problem areas in our neighborhood. He did state that was a message he got about some graffiti on the Family Dollar store and knows that there was an armed robbery in past few weeks.

November 24th is the date that the Main St construction should be done. They are going to tie it in with the last gallery night of the year.

Steve Boehlen asked if they still offer ride alongs. Scott Grygleski said that there is a lot of paper work to file in order to do so. Also he was asked about the radar gun borrowing program, but Scott did not know about it.

Claudia Knepper asked how many hours he works, and he said about 37 ˝ hours and if he works more then he can take the money or time off.

Paul Novotny asked if Scott Grygleski has any comments on the sexual predator laws as far as the restriction on where they can live. Scott Grygleski only said that sometimes it is hard to blanket the ideas and thoughts. As they are not always the re-offending the predators.

Paul Novotny also asked how gangs are defined and are they usually older or younger. Scott Grygleski said that there are some younger ones that are just mischievous. The older ones are more in it as a business with drugs rings. As far as hard core gang members they do drift through and as the drug market it is better here than the southern part of the street or in Illinois.

Old Business:

Updates; Calendars have been ordered and will be send out early in December.

The embroidered shirts that Steve & Linda Boehlen have purchased is something that if we want to get in the future we can take out of the budget.

Mini Grants:

The sidewalk money will be released by Andy Rosendhal from City Planning directly to the city, so that we will not have to pay anything. The ground breaking will be in a few weeks.

Custom Street Signs – the final estimate is $2103.50 and hope to be completed by the end of the year. We will only be accruing a cost of $103.50 for the extra labels. We will also be able to go in an take pictures before they put them up, and will also be able to take pictures when they put them up.

WinterFest – The quote for the trolley this year is $420. We will need to have someone go down to sign the contract and pay the fee so that we can turn in the receipts for the reimbursement. Paul Novotny stepped up and volunteered to be Santa. He will need to contact Bonnie at Dreams Come True costume shop (920-465-3846) to be measured and to pay the $75 rental fee. Also a trip to Badger Wholesale will also be needed to pick up the  supplies for the popcorn, cocoa and cider. We do still have cups and napkins from last year left over as well.

Decorations will be a lot of the things that we used last year. Linda Boehlen will send Tina Novotny an email to ask her if we can use her Polaroid camera and coffee pot that we used last year again. Shirley Hyer has some cut outs for the craft corner. She would like some pie plates and a hole punch.  We will follow up on what else we will need during the next meeting.

Flyers will be sent out mid November and then the week before Winterfest. Also we will be sending flyers home with the kids from the Nicolet & Anne Sullivan schools. The second flyer will also promote the meetings, events and help that we need. Linda will work on getting the event listed on the community event calendars for the news and radio stations.

New Business:

Sledding day at Triangle Park, Steve Boehlen suggested that we have an outing in January and possibly sell popcorn bags for .10 cents each. We will have to contact the concession stand at the park to see if we are able to. Even something as simple as just hanging up a banner with the Neighborhoods logo on it to promote us will be good as well. We can work with Schmidt Park who is the neighborhood association that Triangle park is located in.

Gambler’s night will be on February 28th. We will be selling tickets for section 207, that holds 500 people and those tickets will be $9 each, where they are normally $13 each. That night is also $1 hot dog and soda night and skate with the Gamblers after the game as well.

A motion was made by Paul Novotny and seconded by Claudia Knepper to donate 10 tickets to each school at a total cost of $180 just like we did for the Bullfrogs game for families who may not other wise have the ability to attend such an event. The motion was approved by all board members.

Book reading event; Steve Boehlen found out more information about the reading in the park idea. We will come back to this idea at another time.

Other things that will be address at a later time is the By-Laws, the Mary Kline bench project that JoAnn Piepenburg is taking up, and the CLF lightbulb project that will be headed up by Barry.

Motion was made by Linda Boehlen to adjourn at 8:58pm.
