Meeting was called to order
by Steve Boehlen at 6:39pm.
There is a correction made
to the January from “mental signs” to metal signs.
Shirley Hyer made a motion
to approve the minutes Tina Novotny 2nd the motion.
Old Business:
Reviewed the Mini Grants
that we are submitting by priority:
1) Movie in the park event that will take place the
last Saturday in June, July, August and September. A few of the concerns were
what time does the park close, where we found that is 10:30pm, and when does
school start again and would that effect the dates in August and September.
2) Winterfest including popcorn popper, trolley ride,
Santa suit, hot chocolate and cider.
3) The memorial bench for Mary Klein to be placed in
the area by the sign facing the side of it.
4) Decorative pathway from Ellis to Main and from
Newhall around our sign to Main- Emily will check with Bill Landvatter on these
items and also having electricity for our sign
5) Metal art sign grant; we will submit the grant for
$5000.00 and then hold interviews with local artists to see which one can
provide the best proposal. As a board we will pick the final design to be
displayed on the corner of University Ave and Baird.
6) Street signs to highlight the Three Corners streets.
The idea is to possibly piggyback with Olde Main Street or to verify the options
that we have in which the city will allow in design.
The Newsletter:
Articles for the newsletter
need to be submitted to Linda Boehlen no later than 2/17/08. We are going to
have a mock copy finalized by 2/21/08 for our meeting at the Art Garage before
the walk at 6:00pm.
Paul Novotny wrote an
article on the name change of Willow to University.
Claudia Knepper is working
on an article about the Curley Lambeu house in our neighborhood and about the
statues in front on The Riverside Ballroom.
Jo Ann Piepenberg was going
to call the Nicolet and Anne Sullivan schools to get upcoming events that are
going on and find out about if they are still collecting the can tabs or milk
covers, so that we can have an article advising on donating those items to the
school. She also was giving them the Three Corners email address. She was also
going to write an article on adopting a hydrant around your house, so that in
the winter it is always clear just in case there is a fire that breaks out.
Other articles mentioned
were the trash pick up days, animal care, Winterfest, recipe corner, puzzle and
calendar of events.
All in all, our highlight
will be ideas and information to better benefit the neighborhood and be better
neighbors by caring for our community.
New Business:
Bull Frogs Night; Casey was
there to answer any questions. There are other neighborhood associations that
are interested in joining in with the Bull Frogs Night event. Schmitt Park,
Fireman’s Park, Lombardi, the Howe Resource Center and the Fort Howard Family
Resources Center.
The fan deck holds 400
people and if we can get 100 people or more to buy tickets the price will be
lowered to $21.00 per person from $25.00 per person, all kids 12 and under is
$15.00. On the fan deck you get hamburgers, brats, chicken and pulled pork
sandwiches along with beans and cole slaw and all you can drink beer and soda.
The nights that they will
be having fireworks at the game will be 5/29, 6/19 (Kids Day), 7/3 & 8/9.
Paul Novotny suggested that
we allow people to choose the fan deck or the general admission where the
tickets would be reduced to $4.75 from $6.00 depending on how many people we
have to take advantage of the group rate.
The Alderman for District 5
debate was a great success, Navarino was grateful and impressed by the turn out
we were able to generate.
The Treasures Report:
Paul Novotny reported that
we have $1324.00.
Open Forum:
It was mentioned that
rather than Steve and Linda stuffing and addressing the mailings that others
should be called upon to help to get the job done faster.
Also the house on the
corner of Forest and Cedar has been a problem. There was a young child that was
left by his grandmother and was found wondering the neighborhood with no shoes
and socks on. Social services are supposed to be getting a babysitter to help
the family.
