New business:

Neighborhood Game: S Boehlen and L Boehlen will be volunteering to help out on Saturday. The event is at Colburn Park from 2pm to 6pm. The goal is to show kids games that we played while growing up and then they will come back to the neighborhood and continue to play the game during the summer. L Boehlen stated that she hopes that we can show a few at National Night out as well.

Old business:

Memorial Bench for Mary Klein: S Boehlen made a motion for a donation of $150 to be presented once the $800 or $900 was raised P Novotny seconded so that the motion can be discussed. P Novotny asked J Piepenburg if they would be willing to raise the money and she said that she would not be. S Hyer stated that the $900 was a lot of money for a bench, especially since they would not be willing to go out and fund raise for the money. J Piepenburg stated that a motion was voted on and passed to get a bench for her, and P Novotny pointed out that there was never a monetary value allotted toward it. S Boehlen stated that there was never a motion made that the money would come from the MNLC grant money as well.

S Hyer, P Novotny, and L Boehlen all voted against and the motion was denied.

P Novotny made a motion that $25 be given toward any type of memorial for Mary Klein to an amount that is raised. S Hyer seconded and all approved motion carried.

J Piepenburg asked if the board would help with the fund raising and there was general consensus that depending on time and what was needed we would help out.

Newsletter: S Boehlen stated that the news letters will be going out in the next few days, but he was hoping to get better pricing to have them printed and mailed out due to not having enough funds in the account to do both right now.

J Piepenburg asked why we were not hand delivering them, and we explained that only L Boehlen, S Boehlen, and H Wickman would be physically able to do that, and we did not have the time to invest in that.  J Piepenburg stated that we could get kids from East High School to do volunteer work handing them out, we responded that there was the concern that they would not deliver them or leave them in mailboxes and that caused too many problems with the Post Office to be bothered. Plus we all work very hard on the newsletter to run the risk of them not making it to our neighbors.

Summer Activities:

Kids Day; P Novotny is going to contact the Mayor’s office to find out whom to contact about giving away popcorn.

National Night Out; S Hyer will talk to Norma T about using her driveway area. P Novotny wanted to know what is going to be the draw for people. S Hyer stated that the plant auction was really popular last year. That the Neighborhood Watch supplies the meat and people bring a dish to pass, drinks, and a chair and come out to hang out and meet their neighbors. J Piepenburg mentioned that the information sent out should state no alcohol.

Bullfrogs Night; S Boehlen is going to bring it up at the next MNLC meeting on June 4, 2009 to get a feel for how many neighborhoods are interested in doing the event again.

S Hyer thought that a neighborhood swim night at Joannes Park would be a fun idea to think about. J Piepenburg suggested that we find a sponsor to pay for 50-60 kids to come swim for free. Family’s then can come out and have a potluck picnic in the pavilion. P Novotny said that he would ask for an extra donation for this event when he calls on some of the local business for donations. D Gomez had the pricing information (kids $3.95/ adults $4.75) and there was a .75˘ discount for after 6pm. The contact phone # is 920-448-3365. S Hyer will call to ask about a group rate.

Mini Grant; P Novotny suggested to submit a grant for the Neighborhood Night out at Joannes Pool. Winterfest will be one submitted. Custom Street Signs will be submitted. Custom Calendars was brought up and P Novotny stated that a lot of places send out calendars so maybe a better idea is instead of sending them out to everyone have only 200 or so printed up and give them away at events like Winterfest. S Boehlen said that sounds like a great compromise because the shipping was very expensive. S Boehlen also suggested a flagpole for y the Three Corners sign. He did some research and he can get one through his work so it would be cheaper like under $200, and in answer to the lighting we can use a solar flood light and he found some for around $100. There was a concern from P Novotny about the responsibility that goes with a flag.

Open forum/Announcements:

P Novotny mentioned that the Old North sign on University Ave is in some pretty bad shape. Daniela is going to mention it to them at their meeting next week. He told her that if they needed help taking care of it they can call the Three Corners neighborhood and he was sure some of us could help them.

S Hyer asked about the status of the Reading in the Park idea. S Boehlen reminded them that the idea was shot down because nobody wanted to help out. She stated that she would read, and the idea was tabled for another time.

S Hyer also mentioned that there are houses that are not cleaning up between the fence and the alleys. S Boehlen said that he has D Gomez checking on graffiti and if grass is over 9” then a courtesy notice is sent out. P Novotny stated that in the alley between Morrow and Ellis there are 2 huge bags of debris that need to be removed.

Motion to adjourn meeting by S Boehlen and second by L Boehlen at 8:02pm
