Old Business:
Bullfrogs Night Updated – The event will be on Sunday July 20th, game starts at 5:05pm & the Bullfrogs are asking that we start arriving at 4:30pm. The first 500 kids will get a batting glove that is being handed out. All kids under 12 years of age will get a free hot dog and soda. The association with the most ticket sales will be able to choose someone from their group to throw out the first pitch. All monies need to be in by Friday June 30th.
Steve proposed two options; a flyer drop be done at the end of May to advertise that we will be doing a ticket sale at the next neighborhood meeting on June 12th. Or we purchase 100 tickets from the operating grant funds and each member sells “x” amt of tickets.
After much discussion Shirley Hyer made a motion and Judy White seconded that each board member sell 5 tickets in addition to the ticket sale on June 12th. Linda Boehlen stated that she still has the raffle tickets that we can give to each person that we sell a ticket to in order to be able to draw the winner of who throws out the first pitch. Tina Novotny suggested that we have the Bullfrogs mascot, Jeremiah be there to promote the ticket sales on June 12th. Steve will contact Casey Ausloos from the Bullfrogs to see if he can make that happen.
In addition to the ticket sales we are going to purchase 24 tickets to donate to the Nicole School and the Anne Sullivan School for the guidance counselors to talk to families that we not be able to normally go to such an event, be able to be given the chance for a family fun night out. Motion was made by Tina Novotny and seconded by Claudia Knepper. Linda Boehlen will contact the guidance counselors and let them know.
Update on the Vandalism – Steve Boehlen let everyone know about the good job that the Boys and Girls club did with the help of Darryl Buck and Luis, in cleaning up the graffiti in the alleyway between Elm and Cedar streets. He did state that he was a bit disappointed that although Norma Teski did a good job in bringing people together for the meeting at La Chiquita, no one contacted Darryl Buck to come help out. He also stated that there was no organizing a neighborhood watch to help combat the opportunity the kids doing the graffiti, and asked that we all keep a watch out in our areas. He also stated that he does do random drives up and down the alleys at different times of the night to try and keep a sense of alertness about the neighborhood.
Judy pointed out that porch lights are ok but you never see vandalism on the front of a house. There needs to be more light in the back. We have already given the information to Amy Kocha the new alderperson that more light in the alleys needs to be addresses at City Counsel.
Plaque for Gary – Steve Boehlen was looking to get a better idea on what we were thinking we wanted for the plaque. Shirley Hyer made a motion and it was seconded by Tina Novotny that no more than $50 should be spent on the plaque. Steve Boehlen is going to bring ideas to the next meeting. We will also re-address how we will be giving the plaque to him.
Board Members Responsibilities discussion – Steve Boehlen wanted to address the negativities from the April meeting and that even thought they were worked out he felt that we have the chance to learn from the misunderstandings. He expressed his disappointment about setting up a meeting to discuss things such as the Bullfrogs event and movie in the park on April 17 the only one that showed up was Tina Novotny. He wanted to express that this is not the Steve and Linda show and that we all have to work together in order to accomplish our goals. He says that there was a real missed chance to step up against the vandalism, and would like to show it is not just about the fun events that we truly do care about the people in our neighborhood, and that is what makes this a great community.
He threw the discussion to the group giving them a chance to express what they also expect from him.
- Stop trying to do it all, ask for help.
- Don’t be upset if people say no.
- If they are not going to help out then we don’t do the event.
- When or if people complain, say we don’t get the help.
- When an idea comes up write up a worksheet to the group and that way everyone adds to the event. If no one writes anything then the idea dies.
- Write the ideas on an index card so that you are only given so much room, and don’t have the chance to plan the whole thing leaving room for the board to add to that idea.
New Business –
New meeting location – Steve would like to talk to Tammy at Nicolet School to see about using the school to have our monthly meetings, but the only thing is that if someone has to come out to open up the school, then we are going to have to pay for that person’s time. So we would run into an issue during the summer months. Linda Boehlen suggested the Curley Lambeau house; Henry Wickman is going to look into it. Paul Novotny is going to talk to the teamsters union to see about a place there. If all else fails we can always move back to the bus depot. Steve Boehlen thinks that the room in the basement of La Chiquita would work for a place to have our annual meeting, and will talk to them about the monthly meetings as well.
AAA signs (Emily) – Emily Ysebaert is still looking into getting the signs and we can give them out during the weekly walks. Also looking to see if they will be in two languages.
Navarino has a banner that they have been walking around with in their walks that advises about keeping noise levels form cars down and also been giving out tickets with fines for $170 if they can hear the radio form more than a block away. So far they have given out more than $450 in fines for the city. Steve Boehlen would like to see if we could do that as well.
Open Forum:
Claudia Knepper asked about the statues in front of the Riverside Ballroom. One of the guys fell off. Tina Novotny stated that Riverside has him and they are working on finding a way to secure him back into place.
Cheryl Renier-Wigg stated that the checking account needs to have two signatures listed per the rules established by the city and integrated into the by-laws of our association.
Tina Novotny made a motion and it was seconded by Linda Boehlen to adjourn @ 7:55pm
