Old Business: Mini Grants

Winterfest – The date of December 14,2008 has been approved for Winterfest during the planning meeting. Along with reserving the trolley from Lamers bus lines for the trolley rides around the neighborhood. Steve Boehlen asked for information on where to get a Santa Suit. Shirley Hyer purchased the beard and eyebrows while they were on sale. Emily Ysebaert volunteered to check on costume rentals. Paul Novotny updated the board on the information he found out on the Popcorn poppers. He gave a variety of prices from Sam’s Club, Badger Wholesale, and Fleet Farm. His option was that the popcorn popper he found at Fleet Farm for $399 was the best deal because it was a stand up model, it was unique in appearance, and had a 9oz kettle. Also because it was a floor model he was going to see if there was an additional amount that he could get off of the price. There was a discussion on the Pro’s and Con’s of purchasing a popcorn popper rather than renting or borrowing one. Paul Novotny made a motion to spend no more than $425 on a machine 2nd by Linda Boehlen. There was a 3 to 1 vote and the motion was carried. Emily Ysebaert was the only board member against purchasing and Steve Boehlen did not vote.

Sidewalk – Steve Boehlen talked to Andy Rosendahl from the Neighborhood Division Staff regarding the pricing from the city for the sidewalk verse what was awarded for the Mini Grants from the steering committee. Andy Rosendahl is going to bring the information back to the committee to see what can be done. In the mean time Steve Boehlen has called a few places and was able to get an estimate for $2500 as a back up. Paul Novotny wanted to make sure that where the sidewalk will go is clear. Emily Ysebaert advised him that the placement is listed in the mini grant, and John Czerwinski verified that the parks department is aware of the placement. Also he wanted to suggest that the sidewalk be as straight as possible, because that would make it easier for parks to plow in the wintertime. We are also still looking to get a decorative stamp of the Three Corners logo stamped into the cement. Steve Boehlen will email out the information he receives from the committee once he gets an answer.

Street Signs – Steve Boehlen was not able to get a sample due to the costs, but the company is coming up with an updated quote for both the plain and the decorative signs. John Czerwinski suggested that we contact Carl Webber with the city to see what kind of a price the city can give us as they have all the materials to do it in house. Also to verify if we buy form an outside vendor would the city do the installation.

New Business:

Newsletter – Due to timing the newsletter drop date will be pushed back to the end of September. Claudia Knepper wants to write 2 articles one on Henry Wickman and the other on the Mexican Restaurant on University Avenue. Emily Ysebaert likes to see articles on ordinances information, so she is going to work on that. Linda Boehlen has a quiz from the Discovery Channel Show It Take A Thief where it will highlight some interesting information from statistic showing that contrary to what people believe who is normally committing the crimes that we are most afraid of. To go hand in hand with that she will write up Gary Kriescher’s story on how he got his stole bike back. Paul Novotny is going to write another history article with Henry Wickman. There will be 6 moths of calendar things to do, and also it was posed that if anyone has any or knows of any events that we can add to the calendar to please email the three corners address. The rough draft will be looked over at the next meeting, and we are hoping that we can get Cheryl Renier-Wigg from the Neighborhood Development Staff to proof read it for us. Linda Boehlen will send her an email to request her help, as she is very good at catching grammatical errors.

Annual Meeting

Steve Boehlen was looking to change the date of the annual meeting from September as it is written in the By-Laws to October as it has been for the past 4 or 5 years. A motion was made by Linda Boehlen and 2nd by Emily Ysebaert and a all agreed to make the change, motion passed.

Steve Boehlen would like to have everyone read the By-Laws and note any changes that need to be made for the next meeting.

The annual meeting will be help in the Transit Authority Building on Thursday October 9,2008 at 6:30pm. Linda Boehlen is going to call Jakes Pizza to see if they can donate or give us discounted prices on pizzas. Claudia Knepper will find donations for the door prizes. Who should be the guest speaker for the evening was talked about and it was decided that we should ask the principals of the Nicolet and Anne Sullivan schools to speak. Linda Boehlen will contact each of them once school starts and make the request.

Open forum/ Announcements:

Bullfrogs Game – 370 tickets were sold between 11-neighborhood associations, and are looked at as being a huge success that we are hoping will happen again for the 2009 season. Also it was talked about from some other Associations that we should do a Gamblers night out as well, the feed back so far from people is they believe it would be equally as successful, and there is interest in participating.

Paul Novotny is going to try to find more people in the neighborhood to become involved.

Paul Novotny was disappointed that Amy Kocha was not able to make the meeting, and suggested that she write or there be an article on her for the newsletter. Claudia Knepper said that she called her with a weeds issues and the problem was taken care of the next day.

John Czerwinski stated that he has a few issues that he would like to bring to our attention. The building at 1400 Main St by Baird has graffiti that he has called in and nothing has been done about it. He would like to see the Community Police officers patrolling the alleys as there has been people selling and smoking drugs in the alley between Morrow and Ellis. There are also gang activity w/pit bulls that animal control is aware of. Loud music and compression breaking are still major issues. He would also like to know if the nuisances and abatement teams are aware of 1537 Ellis, and why is it that the police calls are not listed to the complaint. The address of those who are doing the complaining is what comes up under the report.

Amy Kocha did stats Steve Boehlen on submitting the request for speed bumps in the alleys of Cedar and Morrow, and she is waiting to hear back.

Motion was made by Steve Boehlen to adjourn the meeting at 7:54pm and was 2nd by Emily Ysebaert.
