State Licenses

In addition to City and County Permits, the State of Wisconsin also has a number of permits and licenses that are required for certain types of businesses.

The best place to start is online using the Wisconsin Business Wizard at http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/app/wizard/LoadIntro. The Business Wizard is a tool provided by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce which assists you in determining the proper State Licenses and Permits which are necessary for starting up any kind of business. The Wizard will guide you through five question-and-answer pages about your business and will then provide you with a page of information, forms, and links to get your business properly established within the state of Wisconsin.

Included in the business Wizard are the necessary tax documents, worker’s compensation, licenses and other permits necessary for legal operation. Each section will be explained as you go and if you have any questions contact information is provided in each section.
