Community Neighborhoods:
The city of Green Bay boasts 32 neighborhood associations that offer residents a way to build community, make a difference, improve where you live, connect with City government, and know your neighbors. The associations accomplish this through monthly or quarterly newsletters, monthly committee meetings, and neighborhood events and block parties.
Schools:
The Green Bay Area Public Schools is a unified district that covers the city of Green Bay, plus seven surrounding communities. The district has 4 high schools, 4 middle schools, and 25 elementary school buildings throughout the city with an enrollment of 20,768 students. Post secondary educational opportunities abound with 4 colleges and universities located in and around Green Bay. The University of Wisconsin Green BayUniversity of Wisconsin Green Bay is a four-year university offering degree programs in 47 areas. The 727 acre campus is located on the city’s northeast side and is known for its environmental focus.
On Green Bay’s far west side is Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, that offers degrees, diplomas and certificates for technical & trades, health, digital media, agriculture, public safety, and business occupations.
St. Norbert College is a Catholic liberal arts college that is located in DePere, WI. It is known for its academic excellence; focus on international awareness and leadership and service opportunities.
Bellin College of Nursing is one of Wisconsin’s premier private Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree granting colleges. It is dedicated to preparing health-care professionals by providing an intellectually stimulating environment focused on leadership, community service, and lifelong learning that promotes excellence in health-care practice and the advancement of the profession.
Housing
Green Bay boasts a low cost of living. Affordable housing is readily available, whether you are buying or renting. The median price of a home or condominium in Northeastern Wisconsin is approximately $132,000, which makes home ownership easily attainable for all income levels. In addition, according to the American Chamber of Commerce Researchers Association, Green Bay enjoys relatively low utility and grocery costs.
Recreational Activities
Green Bay, the City for all seasons, boasts year round indoor and outdoor activities to match all areas of interests. There are 65 beautiful parks around the city that offer every type of recreational activity you can think of. The city operates numerous hockey and ice skating rinks, lighted basketball and tennis courts, a disc golf course, 2 aquatic centers and one pool. Avid outdoors enthusiasts can enjoy biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing along the Fox River trail and other state recreational trails. Proximity to the Fox River, the Bay of Green Bay, and Lake Michigan provides residents with opportunities to enjoy fishing and boating. Families can enjoy Bay Beach Amusement Park (where a ticket costs 25 cents) and the Wildlife Sanctuary. Additionally, both the YMCA and YWCA of Green Bay offer family oriented recreational programs.
Arts and Entertainment
Those in search of arts and entertainment will not be disappointed with Green Bay as the city has a wide variety of entertainment activities from music and the arts to sporting events.
The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts located on the University of Wisconsin Green Bay campus and the Resch Center play host to national ballets, visiting orchestral groups, Broadway productions, and major national headliners. In addition, downtown Green Bay is home to the newly renovated Meyer Theatre, a 1,000 seat venue that hosts local productions such as the Green Bay Civic Symphony, Let Me Be Frank Productions, and community theater groups. Gallery Night along Olde Main Street is held four times a year that promotes the many art galleries in that district.
If sporting venues are more to your liking, you can choose from the Green Bay Packer football team at Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Bullfrog baseball team, the Green Bay Gamblers hockey team, the Green Bay Blizzards, an arena football team, or men and women’s basketball at UWGB or St. Norbert College. Additionally, the Walk of Legends along Tony Canadeo Drive near Lombardi stadium features an outdoor display of tributes to Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame players and coaches.
Before your outing, you can dine at one of many Green Bay area restaurants serving everything from Mexican to Thai cuisine. Lastly, you can top off your evening socializing at a downtown lounge and/or espresso bar. Or you can dance the evening away at an area nightclub.
