Al's Hamburger Fire 08/20/2011
At approximately 5:00 PM today, Saturday August 20, 2011, the Green Bay Fire Department was dispatched to a report of Al’s Hamburger on fire. Prior to the initial dispatch, a witness on a motorcycle stopped by Fire Station number 1 and notified us of the fire. We arrived on scene about 1 minute later and found flames exiting the front window and the roof. Engine 411 secured a fire hydrant and pulled a 2 ½ inch hose line and attacked the fire from the street. Flames were knocked down in about 10 minutes and overhaul continued for about an hour. Crews were assigned to the rear of the building as well as the exposures to the north and to the south. Some smoke was found in the exposures, but no fire damage. 8 GBFD vehicles responded with a total of 21 personnel. The GBFD was assisted by the Green Bay Police department, DPW, WPS and the Brown County Task Force. No injuries were reported. Although a cause of the fire has not yet been determined, a gas grill near the front of the restaurant cannot be ruled out and remains under suspicion. The fire was controlled before it was able to advance to an adjoining building. According to the owner, Al’s Hamburger was established in 1934.
