Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Wisconsin granted 6-year-old Joshua Swift’s wish to see and ride in large trucks with the help of three local fire departments on Friday, July 22. Joshua of Racine, who’s battling cystic fibrosis, has always loved large trucks, and when he qualified for a wish, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin and three local fire departments collaborated to help make Joshua’s wish a magical experience.

On Friday, July 22nd at 7:30 a.m., Joshua and his family were picked up by the Green Bay Fire Department by Fire Fighter John Lawler Jr. at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay. From there, they traveled to Gustman’s in Kaukauna, Hwy 41 and Hwy 55, where they met Fire Fighter Justin Brown from the Appleton Fire Department. Joshua and his family transferred to an Appleton Fire truck which escorted Joshua and his family to the Pierce Manufacturing parking lot, where they met Fire Fighter Ted Frank and John Holland from the Oshkosh Fire Department who escorted Joshua and his family to the Oshkosh Corporation Global Technology Center, where Joshua spent a very special day.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Wishes are a special type of medicine that give children a break from doctors’ visits, hospital stays and treatments and provide them something positive with which to look forward.

Since the Wisconsin chapter was founded in 1984, more than 4,000 families statewide can attest to the power of a wish. Last year, the chapter granted a record-breaking 318 wishes and currently more than 250 Wisconsin children are in the process of having their special wishes granted.
