05-29-10 DePere House Fire

De Pere Fire Rescue responded to multiple reports of a structural fire on Southern Star Lane in the City of De Pere. Initial reports were of a working structure fire in progress at the rear of a residential building. At the time of the fire, the occupants were unaware of any hazard present, neighbors noted flame at the rear of the structure and were at both doors telling the occupants to evacuate. The occupant initially tried to use a garden hose but quickly realized it was totally ineffective and called 9-1-1. Response was upgraded while units were in route because of multiple calls and PD on scene to a box alarm number 121. Initial attack was stalled when the garage roof failed and collapsed to the floor in a matter of seconds. Roof cavity of the entire structure failed under the intense fire was extinguished using elevated hose streams. No injuries occurred the two adult occupants, the baby, the dog, and the turtle are safe. There was no fire damage below the ceiling level in the home however there was significant water damage throughout. Much of the occupant’s personal property, pictures, and keepsakes were recovered. Damages estimated at $200,000. Cause will be under investigation for some time.

Departments involved were De Pere, Ashwaubenon, Allouez, Lawrence. Bellevue and GBFD did move ups.
