MAC HEIGHTS BOARD MEETING
February 10, 2010 6:30 PM
Meeting was held at Gary Van Calster’s home, 1935 Knotty Pine Dr.
Present: Gary Van Calster, Paul Secker, Julie O’Connell, Melanie Czypinski from the Green Bay Neighborhood Division, Diane Weyenberg, Paula Lees, Mary Miller, and guest speaker Linda McKeag.
Paul introduced our guest speaker, Linda McKeag who is a member of the Green Bay School Board.
She went over the school referendum and what would be included in the $6 million dollars that the Green Bay school system needs. The biggest issue is maintenance for the schools, and also security cameras, and computers. She explained how the Green Bay schools are losing students to Bay Port, Ashwaubenon, and the DePere schools because of their more updated facilities. Last year Green Bay lost 1,000 students at $8,000 per student, which was a net loss of $8 million dollars for the Green Bay School System. If the referendum is passed, Green Bay would receive $6 million in stimulus money from the federal government.
Julie O’Connell briefly went over the minutes of the last meeting.
Melanie went over the next steps for the neighborhood sign and Gary gave her a hand-drawn picture for her to submit to the designer. We decided that our main color should be green to represent our many trees. Melanie will try to have a few designs for the next meeting. Paul suggested to add a letter system to the back of the sign.
Paul talked about the snow shoeing event on Feb 20th at Barkhausen Nature Reserve at 10 am, and it was decided that any person who wanted to go should just call and make a reservation. They take up to 40 people.
Gary brought up starting a newsletter and that it should be started soon. Melanie mentioned that the money collected for advertising can be put towards the $250 needed to get the $1,000 from the GBNLC, and she also will get city printing costs. Mary Miller and Julie O’Connell volunteered to start the Newsletter Committee. They will meet on Feb 27th at 9 am at Gary’s home.
Melanie Czypinski went over the neighborhood concerns of the Beech Tree neighborhood with Paula Lees, and explained to all of us what the steps are when a complaint is made.
Gary made a motion for Mary Miller and Paula Lees to be board members. Julie O’Connell seconded the motion.
Paul asked for a decision to be made on what events we should put in the newsletter and we decided to include the ice cream social on July 22 from 4-7 pm, and the Beaver Dam Creek cleanup on May 1st at 8 am.
Gary reminded us that we will be looking for a new treasurer at the annual meeting or shortly thereafter.
The next meeting is set for March 9th at 6:30. The annual meeting is set for May 12th.
