MacArthur Heights Neighborhood Association

Annual Meeting Minutes,  May 12, 2010

The annual meeting, held at Harmony Café, was called to order at 6:40 PM.  Board members present were Gary Van Calster, Anita LeClair, Julie O’Connell, Paula Lees, James Andersen.  Missing were Diane and Tom Weyenberg, Mary Miller and Tom Wiltzius.  A total of 21 neighbors were present.

Special guest Lt. Bill Bongle of the Green Bay Police Dept started off the meeting with a presentation explaining his role and the roles of the other officers involved with our neighborhood. Officer Scott Schuetze (492-3785) is our neighborhood police officer. Officer Tim Wickman (448-3171) is with Crime Prevention, and Officer Mike Erickson (448-3260) is in charge of the Neighborhood Watch Program. Lt Bongle went on to explain how to access a map of the city on the computer that outlines the different crimes reported. The easiest way to find this map is to go to greenbaypolice .org and click on the map. Lt. Bongle finished his presentation with a few tips on how to dispose of your prescription drugs at the police station via a drop box. The drugs are burned at the Pulliam Plant or disposed of at a “HazMat” dump.

Our next special guest was Brian Boettcher; business owner and representative of the Military Avenue Business Association. Mr. Boettcher explained the importance of the reconstruction and reasoning behind some of the decisions that were made. Military will become an important thoroughfare for local residents when Hy 41 is under construction. Go to US41Wisconsin.org for ramp closings. Street construction should be done approximately Nov 11, 2010.

Secretary Julie O’Connell read the minutes from last year’s annual meeting.

Treasurer Anita LeClair read the Treasurer’s report. Currently, there is $484.28 in our M&I account; $11.77 in petty cash for a total of $496.05. The cost of the newsletter was $285, and that qualifies us for a $1,000 grant from the city. We will apply for that grant in Aug and receive it in September. Anita also suggested that we change our boundaries because our association is too large. She suggested that we cut 130-140 residents. The area would be the homes south of Hazelwood (Park Place), and the homes on the west side of Packerland Drive. Gary suggested that we add Beaver Dam Park and MacArthur School to our association. It was voted on and approved.

The door prize was won by Randy Connour. He received 4 tickets to a Bullfrogs game.

Board member James Andersen spoke about our need for a bike/pedestrian lane on Hazelwood. He suggested that we use the generous gift of $500 from our alderman, Brian Danzinger, to somehow support the idea of biking/walking to area parks and schools. This could be a MacArthur Heights sponsored walk or biking activity, learning bike safety, etc. Ideas are needed. Contact James Andersen (544-0349) or any MacArthur Heights Neighborhood Association officer.

The meeting ended at 8:45 PM.
