MacArthur Heights Neighborhood Association

Dec 7, 2010

The December meeting was held at Gray Van Calster’s residence, 1935 Knotty Pine at 6:30 PM.  Present were Gary Van Calster, John VanderLeest, Julie O’Connell, Anita LeClair , Don Phillip and Casey Perry.  Bill Resch had stopped by to talk to us about his candidacy for mayor of Green Bay. He told us a little about his background and also talked about the direction he would like to see the city take.

John VanderLeest from the Brown County Board of Directors brought us up to date on the Hazelwood/Wood Lane intersection.  He had just attended a meeting the day before to discuss the improvements of that intersection. Brian Lamers, director of the Highway Dept talked about getting crosswalk pads but that they would have to work with the village of Ashwaubenon, the city of Green Bay and also Brown County, since it is a county road. These pads are about $1000 a piece and can be seen on Military Ave. They are done in red brick. There will be an open forum for the public to give their input and the date will be announced later. Our neighborhood association will send out an email when we get a date. John VanderLeest also discussed the county budget.

Julie O’Connell read the Treasurer’s Report and also went over the minutes of the last meeting.

Anita nominated Don Philip as the new treasurer and Julie O’Connell seconded it.  Don is taking over immediately.

Gary talked about an email that he got from Pam Freeman who works for the city and she would like us to “adopt  Beaver Dam Creek.  We all agreed that this would be a good idea for our association. We would have our annual “Beaver Dam Cleanup” like we have been doing for the last couple of years but with more help and recognition from the city.

Gary asked for volunteers to keep our website updated. We need to get photos on the site and Gary needs ideas about what to do.  One suggestion was to post pictures of decorated homes in our neighborhood during the holidays, and maybe some beautiful gardens or landscaped homes in the summer.  If anyone has ideas or even photos to share with our neighbors, please email Gary of Julie.

Gary talked about the mini grant that we are applying for and asked for suggestions on how to spend it. We agreed that we should use the money to landscape the plot around our neighborhood sign on the corner of Ironwood and Wood Lane. A few bushes and maybe some landscaping bricks is all we would need. We have to be careful not to infringe on the neighbor’s yard.

Gary suggested that for our annual meeting in May, we should invite a fireman to speak.  Also, if you know of or see an outstanding job done by our policemen, please let the city know. There are awards given out every year for their outstanding service but they have to be nominated.

A date was not set for the next meeting.
