1970 Lucyanna Hitch had an idea to honor industrial and commercial firms who had made an extensive effort in projects of beautification. It was then that the Beautification Luncheons began. It was not a contest but rather a time to praise those in Green Bay who were helping to make the city a better place to live and to inspire others to do likewise. The Jaycees donated the money for the purchase of certificates. Mayor Tilleman presented twenty-eight certificates at that first luncheon which was held at the downtown YMCA with the guests going through the cafeteria line. They continued there until 1974 when it was moved to the Holiday Inn downtown for one year in 1975, then they were held at the Beaumont Ramada Inn which was later renamed Day’s Inn.

The categories are varied and submissions by the public are encouraged. Nominations can be made anytime by contacting one of the committee members or by calling or emailing the Mayor’s Office. The categories are as follows:
