Zippin Pippin Roller Coaster

A coaster for Bay Beach amusement park was proposed by Mayor Schmitt in the State of the City in 2009, the Zippin Pippin was found in Memphis Tennessee, and in March of 2010 the Council approved the purchase of the Zippin Pippin and construction began in August 2010.

The coaster opened May 27, 2011 and it was zooming all summer long.  I know my kids have been on it…multiple times.  By July 14, the ride had already seen its 200,000th rider.  Wow!  The City’s business plan requires 200,000 riders per year to make the project sustainable.  The zippin pippin met that goal in just over two short months!

A roller coaster at Green Bay’s Bay Beach Amusement park is in keeping with the history of the park; at two different periods in the parks history there were roller coasters.  And the addition of the Zippin Pippin is part of the master plan for the park.  Bringing the rollercoaster to Bay Beach has made the park relevant and keeps it viable for years to come.

The addition of the Zippin Pippin has been great for the City of Green Bay, it is an amazing sight to see, an engineering marvelle, to add a roller coaster to our city scape.  It is a great amenity to the residents - - and what a bargin at $1.00 a ride.  I did an internet search and found people and articles talking about Green Bay having the Zippin Pippin….
