The City budget preparations begin in August with each department submitting their proposed budgets to the Mayor. The Mayor and the finance staff compiles and reviews the budget, meeting with each department to understand their needs. A final proposed budget is submitted by the Mayor to the Common Council around Novmber 1st of each year. The budget is taken up at a publicly noticed meeting mid-November where Common Council members and constituents have an opportunity to discuss the budget. Following the public hearings, the proposed budget, including authorized additions and deletions, is adopted by the City Council.
