Summer & Seasonal Employment (DPW)

The City of Green Bay is accepting applications for Summer and Seasonal employment with the Department of Public Works. Residency within the corporate city limits of Green Bay is required at time of hire.

Employment may occur anytime between the dates listed below.

DPW positions require the ability to work in varied environmental conditions.

Seasonal Engineering Aides - Works with survey and construction crews on staking, grade alignment, brush cutting, measuring, etc. Post high school technical training with some courses in mathematics highly desirable. Hours: Field aides 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; Office aides 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Salary Range: $10.95 - $12.55/hour. (Work up to 180 days between April 1 through December 1).

Summer Engineering Aides – Works with survey and construction crews on staking, grade alignment, brush cutting, measuring, etc. Must be enrolled in Engineering program, with preference given to those enrolled in Civil Engineering.  Salary Range: $10.95 - $12.55/hour. (May 15 through September 15).

Summer Traffic Engineering Aide- Performs traffic counts, surveys, collects data for studies and reports, etc. Must be enrolled in Engineering program, with preference given to those enrolled in Civil Engineering. Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (37.5 hrs.week). Depending on traffic counting needs, Aides will need to begin their work day as early as 7:00 a.m. and end it as late as 7:00 p.m.. Under these circumstances, they will only work a normal work period.  Salary Range: $10.45 - $12.20/hour. (May 15 through September 15).

NOTE: Employees may be temporarily transferred to other divisions depending on need.


* Operation Division/Street Section (patch holes in the streets) Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Salary range: $8.00 - $9.95/hour. (May 15 through September 15).

* Traffic Division/ Signs & Marking Section (maintenance of signs, assist with pavement marking, clean up). Hours: Monday - Friday, shift vary 4:00 a.m. - Noon, 5:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., or 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Salary range: $8.00 - 8.95/hour. (May 15 through September 15).

* Traffic Division/Electrical and Communications Section (assists with shop and field activities including assembly, installation and maintenance of electrical and radio communications equipment). Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Depending on need, Electrical/Communications Section workers may work with the Signs & Marking Section under that work schedule. Salary range: $8.00 - 8.95/hour. (May 15 through September 15).


* Operations Division/Sanitation Section (garbage pick up) Hours: Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Salary range: $9.50 - $10.85/hour. (May 15 through September 15).

*Parking System Division - Routine cleaning and maintenance of parking facilities including sanding, painting, pressure washing, etc. Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Salary range: $8.00 - $8.95/hour. (May 15 through September 15).

* Summer Clerical - Police Department (performs general clerical work, including data entry, filing, customer service and answering pones) Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week). Salary: $8.00/hour.(May 15 through September 1).

Individuals must comply with City’s Residency Policy and must be at least 18 years old for Department of Public Works summer & seasonal positions.  Interested individuals must complete the City of Green Bay Application Form with the Supplement Form for Summer/Seasonal Employment (application link below).
