December 27, 2004: Schmitt issued a statement of sadness regarding the passing of legendary Reggie White. "The people of Green Bay send our prayers and condolences to his wife Sara and their children. Reggie will be remembered for his passion on and off the field. His commitment to God was reflected in everything he did. His impact on our community remains strong today and will continue to serve as a living reminder of the greatness of the person who brought hope to a community." |

November, 2004: Mayor Schmitt, along with Fred Monique, Gary Delveaux and Paul Ehrfurth spent a week in Italy with our sister city to promote trade between the two. |

November, 2004: The Mayor lit the City Peace Tree in a ceremony in downtown Green Bay. This year marks the 18th year for the annual Peace Tree Lighting and Holiday Sing. The Green Bay Chapter of People To People has been the sponsor of the Peace Tree for many years dating back to the Vietnam War. The local chapter is involved in hosting international groups when they viis the area and members of the group travel to far away places where part of each trip is spent in private homes. |

November, 2004: Mayor Schmitt was honorary Grand Marshall for the City's annual Holiday Parade held in downtown Green Bay. The hour and a half parade was enjoyed by thousands as parent brought their children down to watch and listen to the sights and sounds of Christmas. |

October, 2004: The Mayor and other community leaders announced "Get Out The Vote" challenge to the county's voting public for the 2004 Presidential election. A large chart was displayed showing the percentage of voter turnout for the 2000 Presidential Election. A trophy will be presented to the winning community. |

October, 2004: The Mayor announced he will spend a day with a department to see firsthand what city employees encounter each day in their jobs. His first day was with the Municipal Garage tossing garbage for the day. He has since spent a day with Green Bay Metro on the buses and with the Green Bay Police Department. October, 2004: Mayor Schmitt and participating sponsors announced the first-ever Entrepreneur's Connection to take place in downtown Green Bay. The eight hour long event was aimed at people who wanted to start or expand their own businesses. Seminars and displayed were available and over 100 people attended the event. Feedback from the participants was positive. |

August, 2004: With a generous donation from Associated Bank, a Welcome Center was constructed in the first floor of City Hall. This new center is dedicated to Jake and Merideth Rose and welcomes and directs visitors to City Hall. The dedication took place August 12, 2004 with the Mayor and members of Associated Bank Board. |

August, 2004: As part of the City's Sesquicentennial events, a parade and festival was held on August 14, 2004. The newly refurbished Jefferson Street was dedicated and visitors were shown the time capsule and the items which will go into it. Thousands lined the streets of downtown to watch the 2-hour long parade which was capped off by an old-fashioned festival with food, historic displays, games, and of course, birthday cake for all. |

June, 2004: A big day for the near west side residents. Mayor Jim Schmitt presided over the dedication of the new Community Policing Center located on Shawano Avenue. The former rundown home was transformed by volunteers and will be manned by the Community Police force in the neighborhood. Residents feel safer with this community center. |

May, 2004: Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt and Village of Ashwaubenon Nubs DeCleene announced an agreement between the two municipalities allowing the City to sell water to the Village. Both declared it was a "Win, win situation." Water is expected to be delivered to the Village by 2006. |

February, 2004: On the eve of the City of Green Bay receiving it's incorporation on February 27, 1854, the City celebrated in style. A Gala was held at the Lambeau Field Atrium with over 1000 people attending. Dinner, interspersed with a history video and period music and dancing was capped off with a Happy Birthday Green Bay song and a champagne toast. The event was held on February 26, 2004. |

January, 2004: Mayor Schmitt invited wide-receiver Nathan Poole of the Arizona Cardinals and his wife to visit Green Bay after Nathan's late-game catch giving the Arizona Cardinals a victory over the Minnesota Vikings and giving the Packers a home playoff game and the NFC North Division championship. The centerpiece of the weekend was the game Poole helped make possible: the Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks in first round of the NFL playoffs. |

September, 2003: The City, along with the nation, paused to remember the September 11th attack on our country. The replica Liberty Bell on the courthouse lawn was rung in memory of those who died in the attacks. |

September, 2003: Mayor Schmitt announced the appointment of Craig VanSchyndle as the City's new Chief of Police. The official swearing in took place in the Council Chambers at City Hall with VanSchyndle's family, friends, and about 50 people looking on. |
