New Community Shelter Ribbon Cutting December 20, 2010: The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held at the New Community Shelter for the $2.9 million expansion project which began last May. The expansion included a new cafeteria, computer room, private consultation room. Mayor Schmitt and County Executive Tom Hinz were among the officials celebrating the new addition to the facility.
Wyatt Cook

November 29, 2010: Mayor Schmitt invited seven year old Wyatt Cook to his office at City Hall to present the second grader with a proclamation signed by the Mayor proclaiming November 14th as World Diabetes Day. Wyatt was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in 2007 at age 4. Wyatt must take at least six insulin shots and check his blood sugar five times daily. In spite of his disease, Wyatt remains a happy seven year old full of curiosity. His mother, Heather, is active in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and joined Wyatt along with his younger sister in the visit to the Mayor. Mayor Schmitt feels the proclamation is a way of bringing awarness to this disease.

Green Bay Time Warner Holiday Parade November 20, 2010: The holiday season brought the Green Bay Time Warner Holiday Parade to downtown Green Bay. Folks were entertained with songs and dance before the parade. Mayor Schmitt welcomed everyone and introduced area kids who won the coloring contest, then led all the children in a countdown to start the parade. One after another floats, animals and bands marched down the streets ending with the man himself - Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
Broadway Lighting 2010 November 19, 2010: The annual lighting ceremony was held on Broadway lighting the street in festive holiday attire. Mayor Schmitt and the children in attendance counted down from ten to make the street come alive with lights. Stately Percheon horses drew wagon loads of families for a short ride up and down the street while holiday singers filled the air with songs of the season. Santa was on hand handing out small candies to the little ones and street businesses offered specials for the occasion.
Park in the Art November 18, 2010: A novel program coordinated by Olde Main Street, Inc., Park in the Art is an artistic approach to bike racks in the district. Three pieces have been created so far with each piece capable of holding two bikes. Local artists Naomi Moes-Jenkins created "Dehn's Ice Cream located at Cat & Jim's Art & Soul Café and Jeff Benson created "Rollers Rest" at Streu's Pharmacy and "Summer Breeze" at The Attic Books & Coffee".
Peace Tree Lighting November 17, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt, Brown County Executive Tom Hinz, and MC Zoe Zeitler a Parkview Middle School 8th grader welcomed everyone to the rodunda of the Brown County Courthouse for the Annual Peace Tree Lighting ceremony. Peace essays were read by Eddie Noble, 2nd grade; Taylor King, 6th grade; and Ryan Joseph, 7th grade. Fort Howard Elementary School Choir kids sang Christmas songs. The ceremony ended on the lawn outside the courthouse with the lighting of the giant living Peace Tree.
Film Festival 2011 November 17,2010 Jay Schillinger, NorthCoast Productions, announced a new city event to be held February 25-27, 2011 in downtown Green Bay. The Film Festival 2011 event is highlighted by screening of feature films and shorts submitted from around the world. Mayor Schmitt applauded the event as a plus for the city and downtown allowing residents and visitors yet another reason to come enjoy what the downtown area has to offer.
Main Salon Ribbon Cutting November 17, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt joined owners Betz and Michelle Rodriguez, friends and Downtown Green Bay, Inc. staff in a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening the new salon on Main Street. The salon features a high end atmosphere at affordable pricing, convenient parking, bilingual staff and a full range of hair and nail services.
2011 Budget Approved November 16, 2010: After more than eight hours of debate, the Common Council approved the 2011 City Budget.  Mayor Schmitt applauded the council’s efforts in crafting a budget that will not raise property taxes.  Some of the provisions in the budget include a cap on administrative pay increases of $500, one and half days of furloughs, increasing our police force with 5 new officers, and creating a bulk pick up fee for move outs.   
Military Avenue Ribbon Cutting November 16, 2010: Mayor Schmitt joined the Military Ave business leaders, area aldermen, and city officials in a ceremony celebrating the re-opening of the $10 million Military Avenue reconstruction project. The project began in March of this year with the road remaining open for businesses throughout the nine month process. Bryan Boettcher, President of Military Ave Business Association, noted there have been 12 new businesses who have joined the corridor during the construction process.
Project Vote 2010 November 9, 2010: Mayor Schmitt was joined by Project Vote members to announce the winner of the Vote Challenge for the November 2nd election. All municipalities in Brown County turned in voting numbers above 60% but the Town of Pittsfield was the winner of the traveling trophy with a turnout of 71.09% of registered voters actually voting.
Lloyds Guitars November 8, 2010: Lloyds Guitars recently opened at 411 Dousman Street and celebrated with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Joining owner Lloyd Baughcum, was Mayor Jim Schmitt, On Broadway, Inc. staff and board members along with family and friends. A twenty year music veteran, Baughcum decided to open his own store front. He sells new and used electric and acoustic guitars as well as guitar accessories.
2010 Beautification Awards November 4, 2010: The Mayor's Committee for a Cleaner and More Beautiful Green Bay held the 41st Annual Beautification Awards ceremony today. Seven awards were handed out for Civic Service, Conservation, Exterior Design, Interior Design, Promotion, Remodeling and Streets & Roadways.
Three Three Five by the Traveling Chef October 28, 2010: three Three Five by the Traveling Chef celebrated their new store on Broadway with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Owner Christopher Mangless was joined by Mayor Jim Schmitt, On Broadway, Inc. staff, board members and friends.
Hansen Fund Raising Services Groundbreaking October 26, 2010: An expansion of the Hansen Fund Raising Services & Hansen Frozen Foods facility was celebrated with a ground breaking ceremony at 930 Goddard Way in the I-43 Business Park in the City of Green Bay. Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, Green Bay Area Chamber President Paul Jadin and Lineville Intermediate School Principal Phil Hart joined the celebration. The 6,700 sq. ft. expansion of the current facility will enhance the company's ability to service their growing customer base by increasing pizza production and gaining efficiencies in storage and shipping.
Green Bay Neighborhood Leadership Council's Beautification Award October 20, 2010: The Green Bay Neighborhood Leadership Council's Beautification Committee, nominated by Glen Slaats of Green Bay received the 2010 Arts in the Community Award. A brief ceremony was held on the Fox River trail where river art is located. Mayor Schmitt presented the award to committee chair Noel Halvorsen, thanking the members for their commitment in promoting the arts in the community.
Mason Manor Opens $1.5 million addition October 11, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt was joined by Green Bay Housing Authority members, staff and construction representatives at the official opening of a new addition to Mason Manor Retirement Community located at 1424 Admiral Court. The cost of the structure was $1.5 million which included $347,000 in AWRA Funds.  The 8-story addition includes secure storage areas for residents on each floor and an oversize state-of-the-art elevator. Construction of the project began in March of this year.
Zippin Pippin Signing October 9, 2010: Mayor Schmitt, along with members of the Zippin Pippin fund-raising committee, School Superintendent Greg Maass, members of the city council and city staff welcomed kids in a unique event under warm, sunny skies. Kids got the chance to add their names to the tallest piece of the Zippin Pippin, Green Bay's new roller coaster.
Veterans Ride Free October 1, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt announced any disabled American veteran who displays a Department of Veteran Affairs Service Connected ID or SC card will be afforded free public transportation. It is important that the Department of Veteran Affairs identification card carries the statement "Service Connected or SC" as the designation for the disabled American Veteran, A free ride will also be extended to the service attendant of the disabled veteran.
Family Day September 27, 2010: Mayor Proclaims September 27th Family Day. Recognizing the importance of parents being engaged in their children’s lives, Mayor Jim Schmitt joined other mayors throughout the country in declaring September 27 Family Day- A Day to Eat Dinner with your Children.   Family Day is a national movement to inform parents that the parental engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is an effective tool to help keep America’s kids substance free.
Energy Audit Rebate Program September 16, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt announced the highlights of the City's new Energy Audit Rebate Program. Under this program, Green Bay residents can qualify for up to $200 in rebates to conduct a home energy audit. The Mayor was joined by Mark Gotta, Focus on Energy, Sue Perz, Wisconsin Public Service and the resident of the home, Steve Sickler. The first 1,000 residents will be taken for this program.
Waterfalls Dedication at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary September 14, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt joined Mike Saharsky, President of the Friends of the Wildlife Sanctuary, and generous donors Billie Kress and Dick Resch for an unusual dedication ceremony. Instead of the tradition ribbon, each threw a pail of water to "prime" the new falls. The waterfalls are not only an addition of beauty, but the falls will help keep the lagoons aerated and cleaner.
Zippin Pippin Groundbreaking August 25, 2010: Ground breaking officially started the construction of the new roller coaster at Bay Beach Amusement Park. Footings for the coaster are being put in with construction of the coaster to begin in the next few months. Mayor Schmitt thanked the Fund-raising Committee members and reminded people of the opportunities available to contribute to the building of the coaster. A roller coaster that will be a focal point of the park for 80-100 years.
Woodland Park and Trail Creek Apartments dedication July 29, 2010: Mayor Schmitt acted as Master of Ceremonies at a dedication ceremony which was held for the construction and opening in Spring 2011 of the new Trail Creek and Woodland Park Apartments. The residents of the current Port Plaza Towers (formerly Hotel Northland) will enjoy new state of the art facilities and the move will allow for the sale and restoration of the historic Hotel Northland into a premier hotel in downtown Green Bay.
Renn Boys and Friends July 28, 2010: A Day With Mayor Schmitt At a recent fund-raising for the new Children's Museum, Brian Renn bought "A Day With Mayor Schmitt" for his twin boys, Noah and Trent. Each boy brought along a friend and were treated to several hours with the Mayor. They got tours of the Fire and Police Departments and spent the lunch hour on the CityDeck during Dine on the Deck. Lastly, the Mayor treated them to Root beer Floats at Titletown Brewery.
Elenore Nelson July 21, 2010: Elenore Nelson Gets Birthday Greeting From Mayor Schmitt. Elenore celebrated her 100th birthday and got a surprise birthday greeting and gift from Mayor Schmitt. The mayor presented birthday greetings and a key to the City.
Walking Dinosaurs July 21, 2010: Mayor Schmitt proclaimed Dinosaur Days in Green Bay for August 4-5 when the show "Walking with the Dinosaurs" will appear in Green Bay. A baby T-Rex was on hand and accepted a special Packer jersey lettered with "Baby T Pack" on the shirt.
Childrens Museum Groundbreaking June 25, 2010: The ground breaking for the new Children's Museum took place June 25 on Kids Day in Green Bay. The new 1,500 square foot facility, located at Pine and Washington in Downtown Green Bay, will include 12 hands-on exhibits and will become a great addition to the downtown. The museum will open early in 2011.
Clock Moving June 18, 2010: E. Howard Tower Clock Moved. The clock tower that stood for years in the former Port Plaza/Washington Commons Mall was loaded into a semi-truck for the journey back to Winona MS. The giant tower stands 30 feet tall and 5 feet wide and was originally sold to Winona and manufactured in about 1903. Fund-raisers were organized in Winona to raise the $15,300 needed to buy and ship the clock.
New Community Shelter Groundbreaking

May 24, 2010: A ground breaking ceremony was held at the New Community Shelter for a $2.9 million expansion project. The addition will allow for better service to adults experiencing homelesness; and men, women & children who come to the shelter every day for meals. Mayor Schmitt, County Executive Tom Hinz, Police Chief Jim Arts, Shelter Board of Directors President Tom Olejniczak and other friends dug the symbolic first shovel of dirt.

Poppy Princess May 5, 2010: Mayor Schmitt was joined by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary in proclaiming May 7-8 as Poppy Day. The Mayor met with this year's Poppy Princess Cerena Edict from Valley View Elementary School. The American Legion adopted the Memorial Poppy in 1919 and the annual observance of Poppy Day gives citizens an opportunity to salute those brave defenders of our way of life and those who gave their lives for the American ideals of freedom, justice and equality.  It is a small symbol of a great sacrifice.
Georgia-Pacific Ribbon Cutting May 5, 2010: Mayor Schmitt assisted personnel from Georgia-Pacific Broadway mill cut the ribbon and officially open their new line "enMotion". enMotion is a hands free towel dispenser predicted to be used instead of cloth towels in homes and workplaces.
Ray & Joan Kroc Center Groundbreaking April 29, 2010: Ray & Joan Kroc Center Ground breaking ceremony took place for the new Kroc Center located on Lime Kiln Road on Green Bay's east side. This facility will be a true community resource, featuring a double gymnasium, aquatic center, fitness center, chapel/auditorium and rooms for art, music, computers, youth activities and more. The Kroc Center will be built in two phases with an ice rink included in the
second phase.
Frontier Airlines April 19,2010: Frontier Airlines announced a new seasonal nonstop service between Austin Straubel International Airport and Denver beginning April 1 and extending through October 22, 2010. Daniel Shurz, Frontier's vice president of planning & strategy was welcomed by Mayor Schmitt, Paul Jadin, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Tom Hinz, County Executive and Tom Miller, Austin Straubel Airport Director.
Prescription Drop Box

April 19, 2010: Members of the Leadership Green Bay - Rx Drop Box Committee unveiled the results of their group project, a prescription drug drop box located in the lobby of the Green Bay Police Department. Mayor Schmitt joined the group along with John Kennedy, Environmental Programs Manager of the GBMSD and Rebecca Deschanes of the Partners in Education Drug Alliance to discuss the importance of a safe and secure location for residents to properly dispose of old prescriptions.

Cat & Jim's Art & Soul Cafe April 16, 2010: Mayor Schmitt joined Olde Main Street representatives and owners Catherine (Cat) and Jim Daniels for a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony of Cat & Jim's Art & Soul Café located at 1425 Main Street. The southern style restaurant with its signature outdoor grill opened in November and features meals and sides including barbecue ribs and tips, jerk chicken, candied yams, black-eyed peas and more. Take out or eat in.
Project VOTE Spring Election April 13, 2010: Mayor Schmitt and Project VOTE representatives Jim Morrison, Mike Tilot and Darlene Marcelle announced the winner to the Voter Challenge for this years Spring Election. All Brown County municipalities competed for the trophy which was won by the Village of Denmark with 28.4% of registered voters voting. The Town of Scott was second with 27.92% followed by the City of Green Bay with 26.95%. Denmark will keep the trophy until the Fall Election.
Watermark Project Funding April 9, 2010: Wisconsin Housing & Economic Development Authority Director Antonio Riley made an announcement at the CityDeck that New Markets Tax Credits will be awarded to allow the development of the Watermark project. Along with this development, the new Children's Museum and River Center will also begin construction. Mayor Schmitt commented "That this project remains the same as when first proposed. Securing loans became a concern when the economy became unstable, but with this funding these projects can now be completed".
April 1 - Census Day April 1, 2010: Mayor Schmitt, City Staff, and local Census representatives kicked off the official start of Census Day at Eisenhower Elementary Schools 2010 SpringFest. The Mayor arrived in a Green Bay Metro bus wrapped with Census information and were greeted by 240 kids and parents. The Mayor handed out Census promotional materials and talked to the kids of the importance of filling out the Census forms. This Census will determine the amount of money and representatives the State will receive.
Mayor Schmitt's 2010 State of the City Address March 30, 2010: Mayor Schmitt spoke to an audience of approximately 400 at the Meyer Theatre in downtown Green Bay March 30th. The Mayor spoke of jobs creation, public safety, sustainable efforts, recreation, mass transit, ways in which the City stretches the taxpayer dollar, and health initiatives. Concluding, the Mayor said "We have a name recognized around the world and I'm proud of what we've accomplished and optimistic at what lies ahead knowing that each new day holds new opportunities and new reasons to celebrate."
Google Fiber Announcement

March 26, 2010: Google Fiber Application Submitted.
Mayor Schmitt along with Rasmussen College officials and students announced the City of Green Bay submitted its application to Google for "ultra high speed internet". The City teamed with Rasmussen College to drum up community support and promote the City's application. Residents and fans of Green Bay can get involved by voting for the City through a web site Rasmussen set up called 100TimesGB.com.

Zippin Pippin Sales Agreement

March 18, 2010: The Zippin Pippin Officially Belongs to Green Bay. Mayor Jim Schmitt signed the purchase agreement officially acquiring the Zippin Pippin roller coaster. The Mayor was joined via video conference by Steve Mulroy, President of Save Libertyland!, Inc. and Greg Ericson, President of the Ericson Group. The $35,000 purchase agreement includes the exclusive rights to the Zippin Pippin name, design configuration as well as all high value historic materials including the actual coaster cars. The new ride is expected to be in operation in May of 2011.

St. Patrick's Day in Green Bay March 17, 2010: St. Patrick's Day the Green Bay Way. Green was the color of the day in Green Bay, WI. Mayor Schmitt called to "Meet me at Admiral Flatley Park" and people gathered there to begin the new Green Bay St. Patrick's Day celebration. Bagpipes blew, bands played, dancers danced on the walk to the CityDeck to hear music, watch Irish dancers and enjoy a daylight fireworks display on the Fox River.
Military Avenue Groundbreaking March 16, 2010: Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, joined by member of the Military Avenue Business Association and other city officials broke ground for the $10 million reconstruction project. The utility work began on March 15th and although the road will be restricted to lane closures, it will be "open for business" for the Military Avenue corridor. Alternate access points are posted along the corridor for those wishing to avoid driving Military itself.
St. Patricks Day Celebration in downtown Green Bay March 9, 2010: Mayor Jim Schmitt, Packer President Mark Murphy, Cellcom Executive Rob Riordan and members of the Shamrock Club of Green Bay announced the newest Green Bay event - Celebrate St. Patty's Day in Downtown Green Bay. The event promises to be a family-friendly celebration and a start of a new tradition.
Mayor Schmiit accepts donation from Packer President Mark Murphy February 22, 2010: The Green Bay Packers Foundation has awarded $176,534 to 62 civic and charitable groups throughout the state of Wisconsin in its annual distribution of grants, Casey Cuene, chairman of the Foundation committee, announced Monday. Mayor Schmitt accepted $15,000 donated to the Green Bay Neighborhood Leadership Council, the support organization for Green Bay's neighborhood associations.
Mayor takes census job test February 3, 2010
Mayor takes Census Job Test
: Mayor Jim Schmitt along a handful of city employees took the 30 minute Census Jobs test to demonstrate that government tests are not hard to pass. The test is a basic skill test that benchmarks the tasks census workers will perform while working in neighborhoods. Over 7,000 jobs are available and are part-time with good pay.
Career Day at St. Thomas More February 2, 2010: Mayor Schmitt and other prominent citizens gathered in the gym at St. Thomas More School for the Career Day there. The students posed questions to the panel about their present careers and how they attained their goals.
Home Energy Audit Proposal January 28, 2010: Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt had an energy audit done on his 95 year old home in hopes of saving energy dollars. The Mayor has a proposal before the Federal Department of Energy for Green Bay homeowners to be able to apply for a $100.00 rebate from the City's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant allocation to go towards home energy audits that normally cost around $350. Residents could pay as little as $50 - $100 for a home energy audit.

City Asks Neighbors To Step Up for Census
: Mayor Jim Schmitt along with local Census Office Manager Jim Warner asks Northeast Wisconsin residents to step up and support their community by applying for a US Census Job. Over 7,000 eligible workers are needed for Green Bay alone. Jobs are part-time and pay is good.
