How It All Began.
In 2003, Jim Schmitt was elected Mayor of the City of Green Bay. One of his initial goals was to celebrate children and how special they are to their families and to the community. Kids’ Day has been a tradition in the Mayor’s family for many years and he wanted to pass this tradition on to the youth in Green Bay. Mayor Jim Schmitt understood from his own experiences that kids are the foundation of our city’s future thus proclaiming June 25 as Green Bay Kids’ Day.
The tradition was started in the Mayor’s family as a way to say how much he appreciated his children. The second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day and the third Sunday in June is Father’s Day. Kids’ Day was proclaimed on June 25 because it is six months from Christmas. Since 2003, Kids’ Day has been an annual event held on June 25 of each year.
Kids’ Day is a fun-filled event, which features a variety of FREE activities sponsored by the City of Green Bay along with local businesses. Provided kids have their official Kids’ Day wristband, children will receive the “Royal Kids’ Day Treatment”. Wristbands can be picked up at various sites throughout the city.
