FINANCE COMMITTEE

MEMBERS PRESENT:   Chairman John VanderLeest, Vice Chairman Tony Theisen, Tom Weber, and Steven Deneys

 

MEMBERS EXCUSED:   None

 

OTHERS PRESENT:  Doug Daul, Chief Roemer

 

1.    Roll Call. 

 

Roll Call was taken and all were present.

 

2.    Approval of the Agenda.

 

A motion was made by Ald. Theisen, seconded by Ald. Weber, and carried to approve the Agenda.

 

3.    Approval of the minutes of the Finance Committee meeting of September 9, 2008.

 

A motion was made by Ald. Deneys, seconded by Ald. Theisen and carried to approve the minutes of the Finance Committee meeting of September 9, 2008.

 

4.    Request by Ald. Nicholson for an update on TIF debt and general obligation debt at the time when Mayor Halloin left office to the time Mayor Jadin left office, and current.

 

Finance Director Doug Daul gave a short presentation comparing debt from 1995 and 2003 to date.  Ald. Nicholson asked that Mr. Daul be ready to present the information to Council at the October 7th meeting.

 

A motion was made by Ald. Weber, seconded by Ald. Deneys and carried to receive and place on file the update on TIF debt and general obligation debt at the time when Mayor Halloin left office to the time Mayor Jadin left office, and current.

 

5.    Request by Ald. VanderLeest to seek grant monies from the Federal Government and State of Wisconsin to install in-squad cameras in all police vehicles by 2009.

 

Ald. VanderLeest went over the funding for this project and stated that he would like to see it implemented as soon as possible.  He wants to see them in all Police vehicles because he feels it will make for better law enforcement.  Chief Arts sees the benefits of the camera as delivering rock solid evidence for court.

 

A motion was made by Ald. Weber, seconded by Ald. Deneys and carried to receive and place on file the request by Ald.VanderLeest to seek grant monies from the Federal Government and State of Wisconsin to install in-squad cameras in all police vehicles by 2009.

 

6.    Request by the Fire Chief to replace an Inspector’s vehicle.

 

Chief Roemer stated that SUVs are the vehicles that work out best for the Fire Department.  He handed out a specification sheet to the members, stating that the Blazer is the most appropriate vehicle for Fire.  Chief Roemer states this vehicle is best for carrying equipment and turnout gear.

 

Ald. Weber stated that he wanted Chief Roemer to attempt to manage this purchase from his current budget.

 

A motion was made by Ald. Weber, seconded by Ald. Deneys and carried to purchase an Inspector’s vehicle from the Fire Department 2008 operating budget.

 

7.  Report of the Finance Director:

a.  Update on department vacancies.

b.  Younkers update.

 

A motion was made by Ald. Deneys, seconded by Ald. Theisen and carried to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
