3:00 PM
1. Meeting called to order at 3:00
p.m. by Chair Paul Linzmeyer.
2. M/S Nic Sparacio/Lisa Evenson to
accept the minutes.
3. Crystal Osman
gave update on Earth Day events.
Crystal said there will
be a “Green Parade” for Earth Day this year.
This parade is for anyone who wants to join. It will be as without fossil fuel use as
possible. There is free entry for the
parade. There are 10-15 groups who have
entered the parade thus far. The parade
is Saturday, April 24th at 11 am on Broadway. The parade starts at Howard Square. There was a suggestion that the Sustainable
Green Bay Task Force be the judges for the parade entrys.
Paul Linzmeyer
officially suggested that the group should do something for the parade. Sandy mentioned that on the Wednesday May 21st
7-8:30pm there will be a panel discussion on community gardens at the Brown
County Library.
4. Request to spend $165 on the
Leadership Green Bay drug program
Paul Linzmeyer explained
that LGB will place a prescription drug collection box at the Green Bay Police
station downtown.
M/S (9:18 on record)
5. Chairman
Linzmeyer gave an update on an RTA.
Paul Linzmeyer told
everyone that WISPIRG is coming to Green Bay to have a transportation freedom
day. WISPIRG is trying to raise
awareness about the usefulness of RTA.
6. City facilities energy audit results.
Nic Sparacio explained
that the consulting firm they hired to look at the city looked at everything
and the results are now in front of respective department heads for
review. There are many things that can
be done right now to help. For example a
damper in one of the garages can be changed in their air mover. Paul Linzmeyer said that perhaps there should
be an education process internally to promote energy efficiency.
7. Sustainable Neighborhood
Selection Criteria.
Nic Sparacio explained
that he has been working with neighborhood staff to come up with a working list
of criteria and a neighborhood that they might be able to work with. Nic sent out a sheet listing the criteria
before the meeting. Please see the
attached sheet for more details. Nic
explained that the committee should go through and try to weed out many of the
neighborhoods and come up with about 3 neighborhoods to target. Nic stated that if the different committees
went through the different points on the sheet with the various neighborhoods
this would allow the committee as whole to easily find out which neighborhoods
are going to fit what they are looking for.
Nic stated the goal of this project is to work with the selected
neighborhood and help them develop the tools necessary so they can continue the
work the committee has started after the committee has finished.
A question was raised
about if it might be easier to have the neighborhoods apply to the committee
instead of the committee trying to find a neighborhood. Paul Linzmeyer said
this is something he could see happening down the road as the committee gains
more visibility, but right now that might not be an option. The committee examined a map of all the Green
Bay Neighborhood Associations. The 4 top
neighborhoods so far are Astor, Astor East River, Navarino
and Three Corners. A letter will be sent
out to the selected neighborhoods in advance of sitting down and meeting with
the members.
8. Update on chartering process for
subcommittees.
Nic Sparacio gave an
update on the transportation subcommittee chartering process. He said they have had a few brainstorming sessions
so far and have refined their thoughts with each meeting. Nic handed out a draft copy of the
transportation charter for other subcommittees to use as a possible guide. Environment and Vibrance
chartering process has been put on hold.
Energy and building environment charter is coming along, but is still in
the development process.
Goal statements should
start to appear on the website under their respective subcommittee sections.
9. Chairman Linzmeyer adjourned the
meeting at 4:11.
