Minutes
Sustainable Greater
Green Bay Task Force
Thursday, 6/17/2010, City Hall Room 604
3:00 PM
1. Meeting
called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Chairman Paul Linzmeyer.
2. LEED
for Neighborhood Development Presentation by Theresa Lehman of Miron. Theresa stated
that this is the first year the LEED program is available to the general
public. LEED for Neighborhood
Development focuses on three things: 1) Smart growth, 2) Urbanism and 3)
Promoting green buildings within the neighborhood. The LEED program is the only rating system
developed by the US Green Building Council that certifies space, everything
else certifies the particular building.
Theresa passed around a grading scale for the LEED program. She said this project works best in highly
urban concentrated areas. Paul Linzmeyer
said he did not find it that important to get LEED certification and it was
very expensive and very tedious. He
continued that even though they may not use this rating system it could serve
as a road map for future sustainable neighborhood projects.
3. Approval
of the minutes from April 15 and May 20 meeting. Motion/second for the 4/15 minutes:
Lisa/Gary. Motion/second for the 5/20
minutes: Amy/Sue.
4. Updates
on chartering process for Food & Health, Energy & Built environment
subcommittees. Lynn Walter said the
first meeting was with a group of about 8 people and they are currently working
on the charter and objectives for the subcommittee. Paul Linzmeyer asked Lynn Walter to explain
what she is involved with regarding food at UW-Green Bay. Lynn stated the goal of her institute at UWGB
is to look at positive strategies for addressing the synergies between healthy
people, sustainable food systems, a sound environment and equitable
communities. It is very broad, very holistic,
and very connecting. They are trying to
come up with new ways of designing food systems.
Paul
Linzmeyer said he has had several meeting with different individuals to try and
get the Energy & Built environment committee populated. He continued that he has some ideas of some
people and will try and bring them together this month. He stated they have a straw man of a charter
done. He went on to say it was important
they have representation from experts from both the Energy side and Built
environment side. He said progress is
slow, but there is progress even though this is a new concept.
5. Sustainable
Neighborhood discussion. Nic
Sparacio handed out a draft of a conceptual structure of how the Sustainable
Task Force might partner with the Navarino Neighborhood. Nic stated some things that needed to be
addressed in the structure: 1) the alignment of the work to ensure the Task
Force is working towards its goals and the goals of the neighborhood at the
same time, 2) aligning efforts within the organized subcommittees, 3) trying to
identify some semblance of a process, 4) resources, what can be used to bring
this partnership off the ground and keep it moving forward, and 5) identify
some required elements or things the Task Force will do within each initiative.
6. Update
on Sustainability position. Derek
Lord said the deadline for application was Friday. He stated the following week HR would review
them and then start the interview process. Depending on how long the process takes,
someone could be on board in a month. He
continued that the interviewers are going to be Nic, HR and himself. The Sustainability Coordinator would be part
of the Task Force. Their
responsibilities will be working with Sustainable Green Bay, managing the home
energy audit rebate program and other grant related responsibilities.
7. No
other issues were discussed.
8. Chairman
Linzmeyer adjourned the meeting at 4:19.
