Jerry Hanson, Municipal Court Judge, welcomes you to this website.
On August 1, 2007, I became your Green Bay Municipal Judge, replacing Judge Hinkfuss, and vowed to work hard as your public servant. Serving the City of Green Bay is an honor and I welcome you to this website.
Green Bay Municipal Court represents the judicial branch of government and handles all citations issued by the Green Bay Police Department, Fire Department, Inspection Department and Department of Public Works for traffic and non-traffic ordinance violations. The primary function of the Green Bay Municipal Court is to administer justice and hold individuals accountable for their actions when found guilty of these ordinance violations.
Green Bay Municipal Court has implemented a number of new programs as follows:
Truancy Court at School. Court is held at East, West, Preble and Southwest high schools on a rotating basis. We handle truancy cases while the student is in school, typically over their lunch hour. “No-show” rates on truancy citations have decreased. Information to the court has significantly increased with the attendance of students, parents, school assistant principals, counselors, and School Resource Officers who attend the hearing.
Warrant Settlement Day. I set up one day for people with outstanding warrants to come into the court and “settle-up” without fear of being arrested. Many who attended were relieved and surprised that it was not a “sting” operation.
Single Arrest Warrant Process. The court now holds Good Cause/Indigency hearings prior to issuing warrants for failing to pay a fine. This saves: police officer time; provides faster accountability; and decreases paperwork.
Records and Warrants on-line. Green Bay Municipal Court Records and Warrants may now be viewed on this website by clicking on “Municipal Court Records and Warrants.”
Extension Request Policy Change. Defendants must make a good faith effort in paying fines or fulfilling community service before receiving an extension.
Tax Refund Interception Program or “TRIP”. For juvenile and traffic cases that have delinquent fines, the court uses in-house staff to file cases with the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue to intercept a tax refund to pay for the past due fine.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the City of Green Bay as Municipal Court Judge. I look forward to your continued support as we embrace the opportunities and tackle the challenges of our community, both today and in the future.
