• Build a sense of community:
Get neighbors talking with each other on a regular basis.
Make sure neighbors know how to communicate with each other. Each should have a list of names and numbers of other neighbors.
Work together to solve problems in the area.
• Involve as many neighbors as possible, including both landlords and tenants.
• Do it stay involved:
Resist the urge to put it off till tomorrow, or the need to do it perfectly. Set a time line and stick to it!
Encourage other involvement, but do it yourself if necessary.
• Purchase and place Block Watch signs.
• Select at least one neighbor to attend neighborhood association meetings.
The association can be strengthened by your involvement.
The block can be strengthened by “networking” to the larger community.
AT EVERY MEETING
• Get a record of participants. Name, address, and phone number. .
• Use name tags. You will learn each other's names faster.
• Have everyone introduce himself or herself. It breaks the ice and encourages inclusion.
• Delegate responsibilities, as much as possible.
Never end without scheduling the next meeting time and place.
Even if it’s 6 months away.
