Lifeguard Training
Looking for a fun and exciting summer job? Take the Lifeguard Training Course and learn the skills necessary to become a lifeguard. This course is open to fun, enthusiastic students who can swim (Red Cross Level 5 swim skills needed) and would enjoy an exciting outdoor summer job!
You must be 15 years old to take the class and 16 years old to lifeguard.
Class size is limited to 20
Ages 15 years and up
Swimmers must have intermediate (level 5 & above) swimming skills
Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are part of the class
Swimming Qualifications to enter course:
Swim 300 yards continuously, using each of the following strokes in the following order:
100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and stabilizing, propellant kick;
100 yards breaststroke using rhythmic breathing; and
100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing, or breaststroke. (The last 100 yards may be a mixture of front crawl and breaststroke)
*There is no time requirement; however, the 300 yards must be continuous – no walking on the bottom or stopping at the side of the pool.
Swim 20 yards front crawl or breaststroke, dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-lb object, return it to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
Registration opens Monday, February 13, 2012. Registration for non-residents begins Monday, March 6, 2012. Sign up early, class spots are limited.
