What is the Park Pride Program?
The Park Pride program was initiated by the Green Bay Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department to allow groups to voluntarily “sponsor” a park and support the City’s park maintenance program in a more direct way.
The Program offers a group the opportunity to make a contribution to its community while generating positive publicity for the group’s service activities.
What Does a Park Pride Group Do?
Each qualified group takes responsibility for litter control in a City of Green Bay park. The group agrees to pick up litter at least three times a year between April 1 and November 1 for two years.
Who Can sponsor a Park?
Any individual or group organized for some special purpose or task can be a sponsor, except partisan or political groups.
Each group should provide adequate adult supervision for younger workers. All workers should be at least 9 years of age or in 4th grade. No other persons should be in the working area.
After completing a two-year commitment, a plaque announcing to the general public your group’s sponsorship will be installed on “your” park’s sign. Names must fit within the maximum of three lines. You will find specific information on the application form.
The Green Bay Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department reserves the editorial right to work with the sponsors in revising group names or acronyms that may be offensive to the public.
Emphasis on Safety
The Park Pride program will be carried out with an emphasis on safety. It is important to be very careful when working in the parks. Guidelines regarding safety concerns are found on the application form.
The group must hold safety meetings at the beginning of each clean-up day.
A Partnership for Public Service
The Green Bay Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department will furnish necessary equipment, trash bags, trash bag pick-up, disposal, and safety vests (if needed).
