Snow Plowing Information

The residents of the City of Green Bay are advised that snow emergencies may be announced during the 2008-09 winter season.

If the area experiences severe weather conditions that include heavy and/or blowing snow, the City of Green Bay may be compelled to swiftly declare a “SNOW EMERGENCY” and announce it through the local news media.  Please tune in to local news stations for the latest information.

If such SNOW EMERGENCY is declared, ANY AND ALL VEHICLES MUST BE REMOVED FROM CITY STREETSFailing to do so will result in parking citations and/or towing fees.

Please cooperate in moving vehicles off streets in any snow emergency so that the Department of Public Works can clear the streets of snow as effectively and as quickly as possible to benefit all.

If a vehicle parked on a City of Green Bay Street during a snow occurance, please consider moving it to an off-street location.  This action will better serve residents because:

  1. DPW will be able to clear streets to the curb on the first pass, reducing the time it will take to finish plowing the City.  DPW will not have to come back and re-plow these streets later.

  2. DPW will not have to leave a windrow of snow around parked vehicles.  Snow windrows may be too high to allow vehicles to easily move out of on-street parking locations.

Winter Maintenance

During the winter months, sidewalks need to be free of snow and ice within 24 hours of the storm event. You are responsible for basic upkeep and snow shoveling of sidewalks in front of your property. If property owners do not take care of their outside responsibilities, the city will come to the property and do what is necessary. The city will then send a bill to the property owner for work performed. For questions or reports, call the Public Works Operations Division at 448.3535.
